Social Responsibility in Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic

In 2020, Kazakhstan, like the rest of the world, battled the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. The first few months were a serious test of the country's readiness, society, and domestic medicine for handling the pandemic. Many Kazakhs suffered irreparable losses due to the virus.

The pandemic demonstrated that Kazakh society can always unite to combat misfortune in critical moments.

It was at this moment that mutual assistance was appreciated and valued at its best by Kazakhstan. A very critical time, as there were acute shortages of rapid tests and ventilators because the producers couldn't provide enough supplies to meet the global demand.

The Saby Charitable Foundation, along with the top management of the fintech company Kaspi.kz, including Vyacheslav Kim and Mikhail Lomtadze, decided to provide humanitarian support to the people of Kazakhstan during this period of emergency and quarantine, which was imposed in the major cities.

In March 2020, Vyacheslav Kim and Mikhail Lomtadze allocated 100 million tenge to buy 50,000 rapid tests to detect the coronavirus.

The Saby Charitable Foundation acquired V8600 ventilators costing 10 million tenge.

By July, Vyacheslav Kim and Mikhail Lomtadze had donated 100 ambulances to mobile clinic teams (for 4th category emergency medical calls).

«We donate 100 ambulances to the state — it is an increase in the number of machines that will allow medical teams to get to the challenge points and aid to those in need as quickly as possible. Together with the domestic car manufacturer, SaryarkaAvtoProm, we have selected a model which can be additionally equipped within the country, not outside its borders. The total value of these vehicles is 1 billion tenge. I think now is exactly the moment when businesses must stand side by side with the state and become actively involved in solving problems related to overcoming the pandemic» - said Vyacheslav Kim.

The coronavirus pandemic gave a fresh, bright illustration of what the social responsibility of business is: it is a responsibility for the future of the whole country and every single citizen.

«We all see the tremendous burden that has been placed on the healthcare system, so our team has made it a priority to assist doctors who are on the front lines of the pandemic. We studied the requirements of the Ministry of Healthcare and healthcare specialists for the vehicles' equipment and developed technical requirements for an ambulance that can be quickly produced in Kazakhstan and delivered to specialized medical institutions across the country in the shortest possible time. The first specially equipped vehicles will be handed over to doctors this week» - said Mikhail Lomtadze.

Over the following years, the shareholders of Kaspi.kz have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to fulfill their social responsibilities.

Kaspi.kz is the leading and largest fintech company in Kazakhstan - among the first to bring innovative products and services to the market to increase people's quality of life.
