New Life After the Floods: AÑSA Fund Builds Homes for the victims of floods in Atbasar

«In the town of Atbasar, two 100-apartment houses have been constructed for families whose homes suffered as a result of this year's spring floods. They will be rehoused in the new apartments by September. Another building is just getting underway

The quality of construction work and the timing of construction completion are under the control of the head of the region, Marat Akhmetzhanov, who has repeatedly visited the construction sites.

«The AÑSA fund gave considerable financial support for the erection. Two months have passed, and already four floors have been built,» says Marat Muratovich. «This year, we expect that 345 families will have a housewarming party. There is the period of warranty, and the builders will maintain it.».

Some families that will live in the new buildings have already had a chance to evaluate their future dwellings. They mention the central water supply and heating, the presence of a bathroom, and spacious entrances among the main benefits.

Even though the building is still under construction, the courtyard is slowly coming to life. Lighting has been installed, and street lights are set up, with paving in asphalt forthcoming. According to the builder, there will be a playground for children with benches in the yard. There are even small green areas planned where flowers could be grown along with small vegetable gardens.

It is worth noting that the charitable foundation AÑSA allocated 20 billion tenge for assistance to the victims of floods in the regions of North Kazakhstan and Akmola. The funds were not only spent on building new homes but also on the purchase of secondary housing for citizens of Kazakhstan who did not want to wait for a new one to be built. AÑSA has already helped 128 families in the Akmola region to buy apartments.

Among those who are already not only a happy owner but also a resident is Gulbarshin Amanzholovna. «It all started on April 10, on the first day of Eid,» she says. «The scene was frightening. We were evacuated and managed to collect the documents and most essential things. Ten minutes later, and the water came,» she said. Spring flooding had already visited their private house in the «London» district of Atbasar several times over the 20 years she had been living there with her husband.

«One of the walls started to collapse. The house was pronounced unfit for habitation. They offered us a new apartment or an apartment on the secondary market. And we decided to agree, and we are so lucky to find an apartment right in the center where everything is at hand: the hospital, the CSC, the akimat, and the shops. We are very grateful,» says Gulbarshin Amanzholovna».
